Comments:
This is Cisnero's fictionalized account of her own and others' experiences growing up in a Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago.  She captures the flavor of her ethnic environment, its people, and the ups and downs of events in daily life in a series of vignettes.  These bite-sized chapters, usually three or four pages each, make this an easy read for young adults, and a comfortable way to expose them to Latino culture in the United States.
