SJSU Event: Homage to Mexican Writer Carlos Fuentes

The Consulate General of Mexico in San Jose, the SJSU Department of World Language and Literatures, Círculo Hispánico and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library invite you to participate in a month of Homage to Mexican Writer Carlos Fuentes from October 17, 2012-November 15, 2012.  Featuring the film series “The Soul of Mexico” , which explores Mexico’s art, history and culture and is narrated by Carlos Fuentes. On November 15th join the panel of discussion on Fuentes’ work and legacy at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library Room 255-257 at 5:30pm.

EVC Authors’ Series: Tim Z. Hernandez

Come join Evergreen Valley College as they kick off the EVC Author’s Series and celebrate Latino Heritage Month with award-winning author/Poet: Tim Z. Hernandez. This event begins at 12:30pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the EVC theatre.

Author’s bio:

Tim Z. Hernandez is an award winning writer and performance artist originally from California. His books include, Skin Tax (Heyday Books, 2004), and the novel, Breathing, in Dust (Texas Tech University Press 2010). He is the recipient of the 2006 American Book Award, 2010 El Premio Aztlan Prize for Fiction, and a finalist for the California Book Award. His novel was recently featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. His performances have been featured in venues such as: The Getty Center (L.A.), Stanford University, and The Dixon Theater in New York City, among others. He received his B.A. in Writing & Literature from Naropa University, and his M.F.A. from Bennington College in Vermont. He works for the Colorado Center for the Book, and lives at the foot of the rockies.
