Our Lady of Controversy: Alma Lopez October 13th

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

Artists, lovers of art, feminists, Virgen de Guadalupe aficionados and everyone else will have a couple of chances to catch presentations by contemporary artist and author Alma Lopez on Our Lady of Controversy on Thursday October 13th.  I had a chance to view Our Lady, one of Alma’s works at the Oakland Museum of California recently and I can say that you’ll find her work exciting and, as the title of her book suggests, not without controversy.

Thanks to Gabriela Nocito, Director of Library Services at NHU and to Peggy Cabrera from SJSU for sending the information on these two presentations by Alma Lopez, both taking place on Thursday October 13th.

2nd Annual Día de Los Muertos at NHU: Saturday October 29th

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

It’s that time of year again.  Time to pull out your candles, photos or objects that represent loved ones who have departed, bring out the hot chocolate and pan de muertos and celebrate Día de Los Muertos!  Join the National Hispanic University as they team up with the YMCA to bring you a totally awesome day of celebration, complete with danza, mariachi, ballet folklórico and more.  Feel free to dress up and wear your super librarian costume (that’s my choice) or pull on a máscara to hide your true identity and celebrate with NHU!
